Super Explosive Shootout is a Main Menu (only) prototype that mimics the 'feel' of a Retro FPS with a wacky twist. This was created as a project during my time on DigiPen's Redmond campus.
The purpose of this prototype is to make a creative Main Menu and focus on 2 words and revolve around them, hence "Super Explosions" was chosen. To apply the words to the Main Menu, I've come up with a design for a game that matches the concept. A Retro FPS with an 80s synth-wave soundtrack supported by a carefully chosen color palette was chosen. To set the tone of the prototype, a 5- 10s cinematic intro consisting of good timing with the music and coupled with explosions, matched with a robotic voice, was added. Transitions between menus were highly inspired by existing games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Persona 5 to mimic the seamless transitions. By the click of the button, explosions would be displayed behind the UI to avoid any overlap.
In retrospect, this project allowed me to understand the use of a cohesive art direction that matches the game's aesthetic and tone, the use of dynamic elements to make menus entertaining and unique, and clear navigation to help players understand the menus.
