Brief Info
Jam-Boree! was created as a project for a module during my 2nd academic year of studying User Experience and Game Design in DigiPen Singapore. This was done in a team of 8 including 2 designers, 1 artist and 5 programmers.
The game's original concept was to cast spells and navigate through the level as a platformer. However, due to design problems and focus on music, the game's concept changed to a linear rhythmic gameplay focusing more on music-building and attaining high scores.
During this project, I was tasked with its original concept to script all relevant mechanics. Since the game was focused on the rhythm, every input the player did must be 'to the beat' and if the player didn't input it precisely, he wouldn't be able to cast spells. After the game's concept got overhauled, changing from non-linear to linear with players only able to move from left to right, I was then tasked on keeping the levels short and fun while setting high-scores achievable for players.
Jam-Bore! is a 2D Rhythm Platformer where you the player play as Brio. Brios finds a magical guitar and it wishes to return back to its owner. Traverse through the magical realm of Castella as you cast magical songs!
