Neor is a 2-D cinematic narrative experience that involves an amnesic man called Neor. He has lost a particular someone and does not remember who they were. You play as him wandering in the forests and following a distant light. Follow the light as it guide to recovering Neor's memories.
Neor was created as a project for a module during my 1st academic year of studying User Experience and Game Design in DigiPen. This was done in a team of 6. This project's goal was to create a unique experience that delivers a short but complete prototype.
This project was a challenging as it had a bigger team consisting of designers and artists so communication was needed to let everyone understand that we were heading for the same idea. I was assigned as Cinematics Designer and was in charge of the cutscenes of the game, but contributed mainly to game scripting and level design. While the game focused more on narrative and environmental storytelling, a lot of it was based on cinematics to progress the story.
In this project, I've focused on learning how to use Timeline (in Unity), post-processing, and shaders to make the game more beautiful and cinematic. The waterfall was made by using shaders and sprite shapes to allow bodies of water in any shape. Post-processing allowed for turning on the bloom and other effects to make the game stand out more in terms of its visuals. Lastly, Timeline allowed me to make great cutscenes that show the progression of its narrative.
In retrospect, this project led me to enhance the beauty of the game and make it more cinematic through the use Timeline with animations.
